Preparation of group assignment

According to the outline of mite6328, the group assignment may be devided into three parts:

1.Gather data from each group, including history, culture, current planning, staff ect.

In this part, in that each of us has introduced our working place in group activitites, what we need do here is to offer a brief introduction and put all the information together. In order to offer others who review our assignment, my suggestions are as followes:
1.Each of us write a breif introduction of our own organization focusing on the above mentioned aspects(history, culture, current planning, staff, anything you want to add) within 200 words.
2. Choose key words from the our introduction and compile them together in the following table:


The content of the blank may be finished individually and each blank is limited to 20 words.

2.Give an account of what development has been conducted at your workplace with reference to theory and research in organizational learning.

In this part, we can just review our comments in group activities and summarise them individually. Each of us are supposed to share a passage with about 500 words.

Also, in this part, it is suggested that we analyse the topic in several certain models discussed in our sessions, so that we can compare the result with each other.

3.Compare and contrast this data and answer the question “What strategies does your organisation have in place to encourage development, change and innovation?”

Finally, the basic information, as well as the data of "a learning organization" posted by Azalea will be put together to compare in group. Then an article to answer the question"What strategies does your organisation have in place to encourage development, change and innovation" will be finished together. Since our working places are all typical mainland Chinese companies taken in charge of different individualls or organizations, we may think about on the same background, what different strategies do we taken and why do the changes differ from each other?

Here is a possible plan of our group assignment, all suggestions are welcomed. Please make comments below. And the plan may be decided before the end of this week to make sure that there will be enough time for us to finish it.

  1. Thanks for Jacqueline’s suggestion to our assignment.

    At first, we will give a brief introduction about our organizations. In order to compare the similarities and differences, we will choose the key words and fill out the above form. In my opinion, it is a quite useful and simple way to compare different data.

    In the part two, we will use some models to interpret the specific situation about our organizations. The initial selections of models include “Diffusion of Innovation”, “Fullan’s Model”, and some related materials. As Azalea’s suggestion, we will also reference her framework (http://mainland4.blogspot.com/2011/03/outline-of-group-assignment.html) to deicide the concrete format of this part. Considering the differences of every organization, I worry about whether every model we chose can be used in our all organizations. For example, maybe Fullan’s Model can be used in my organization, while it is not appropriate for Simon’s organization. The other worry is about that as Azalea’s framework, we need to divide every part into different Subdirectories. In fact, may be some situations about our organizations need to use two models to present. In other words, how to organize and explain some comprehensive Intersection of organizations’ situation is the key which need to be well treated.

    After we finished above two parts, we will discuss the specific strategies about the key “"What strategies does your organization have in place to encourage development, change and innovation”. Under the same background, our strategies will focus on the Chinese companies.
    Above it is my opinion to our assignment and Jacqueline’s suggestion. However, according to Jacqueline’s plan, we will also put out data together in the “Table 2: The data of ‘learning organization’”. In this part, do we still put some key words to compare or directly compare as our detail situation? As the key part of this assignment, we still need to take consideration.

    Thanks for both Jacqueline and Angie's good advice for our group assignment. Regarding to Angie's question, "how to organize and explain some comprehensive Intersection of organizations’ situation…", I think it's better to analyze different organizations' situation based on different models. For example, if Fullan's framework does not fit your organization, you can only give some reflection about this framework or give a short analysis about why it does not fit your organization. If it’s only partly fit, just analyze fit parts. Of course, most situations may be complicated. It may partly fit Fullan’s framework and partly fit other frameworks. In this case, I suggest that analyzing and comparing partly according to relative framework respectively. Then, in the conclusion part, we give a summarized description of our organizations’ situation by comprehensive using those models. Actually, I think if do not make comparison model by model, that will be difficult to find out common point in our different types of organizations to do these comparisons. That is my suggestion about Part 4(The comparison of our current situation with different models).

    Basically, I think this assignment should be FOUR stages, For the first part, totally agreed with Jacqueline’s idea, which should be gather data and give description on your own workplace – including history, culture, current planning, staff etc. and give an account of what development has been conducted at your workplace, but not limited to that, if you guys have more elaborate on your current situation. Then second stage is Using the references to theories and research ((Models mentioned by Angie) in organizational learning what we already learnt from this module, do the gather, synthesize analysis of our work. Third, I consider that we have to compare and contrast our individual organizations’ current situations insightful under the previous two stages and then combined into entirety.

    After data analysis and compare and contrast from our organizations, finally, we may find some solutions, ideas or rethinking for how to make our organization in place to encourage development, change and innovation afterward? That’s the main purpose for this assignment I think so far. Thanks.

    It is really important to work out some suggetions which will help our organizations run smoothly. However, since this part belongs to our individual assignment, more discussion may be stated there rather than in group assignment.
